1 – Discovery, Design and Restoration of the Historical Structures  / Vocational Education

Preserving cultural heritage and historic sites is an important problem. These sites are subject to erosion, vandalism, and as long-lived artifacts, they have gone through many phases of construction, damage and repair. It is important to keep an accurate record of these sites using 3-D model building technology as they currently are, so preservationists can track changes, foresee structural problems, and allow a wider audience to ”virtually” see and tour these sites Due to the complexity of these sites, building 3-D models is time consuming and difficult, usually involving much manual effort. This paper discusses new methods that can reduce the time to build a model using automatic methods. The advent of new digital 3D scanning devices has provided new means to preserve these sites digitally, and to preserve the historic record by building geometric and photorealistic 3D models. Many architects, archaeologists, conservationists, engineers regard BIM as a disruptive force, changing the way professionals can document and manage a cultural heritage structure. The latest years, there are many developments in the BIM field while the developed technology and methods challenged the cultural heritage community in the documentation framework. In this review article, following a brief historic background for the BIM, we review the recent developments focusing in the cultural heritage documentation perspective. As it already known, many artifacts and historic buildings are under threat for some reasons. Euro area has substantial historic elements. When we look at the literature and application, it coulnd’t find any multidisciplinary, compherensive and multinationally developed historic building modelling, clouding and training module at higher institution level. For this reason, the project aims to create research and training hub for the purpose of protecting historic artifacts and buildings, establishing historical heritage library as online by using ICT tools alongwith handing down to next generations in good condition. Many activity and targets were set.

2 – Youth Builds Up Green Future: Eco Innovation / KA2 / Youth

The production and market structure of today have gradually increased the pressure on the sources upon merging of consumption and production patterns. Thus forcing policy makers, business, local authorities, education institutions, international organizations and NGOs to consider and move on the different alternatives. In that period of time, the terms such as sustainable growth and development have risen and shaped the forms of living and way of working. Eco-innovation (EI) tool, which is one of the effective tools used to reach the targets such as effective source use, clean energy and low carbon emission, has emerged. EI refers to decrease of pressure of product and services on the environment as a result of the technological structure adopted by the market along with the consumption and production forms. Business and innovation have come together to provide sustainable solutions such as competitive and green economy.

“European Union 2020 Smart, Sustainable and Inclusive Growth” Strategy has taken significant decisions for green growth and economy respecting the nature. The emphasis has been placed on the importance of the innovation concept for sustainable growth without damaging the natural resources and losing the current welfare level. When we consider the criteria set forth in the framework of these targets,  it’s aimed for green market to have 2,5% share in the GDP, to decrease carbon emission by 20% on country basis, to have a resource efficiency of 20% for the production processes in all sectors and have 1% volume increase each year by 2020. It is aimed to create 3, 5 million new jobs and have 30% resource efficiency by 2030. In reference to this change and innovation need, EU decided to distribute EI funds with an amount of 220 million Euro to the successful projects in 2014-2020 term.

With reference to these needs and reasons, this project is required to cover the need of “eco-innovation and sustainable development”. The students of faculty of engineering that are or will be employed in the production processes of the most polluted industries (construction, energy, manufacture, petrochemical, agriculture etc) and have the most immediate needs and young engineers that are working in these sectors have been specified as target audience. The basic objective of our project is to form and implement “Eco-Innovation for Youth” training program that will support developing of competences for contributing to these targets by providing improvement of the production processes by the target audience. Because, young people are the most suitable demographic group that will be affected by this problem mostly and influence the future and solve this problem. By this way, sustainable growth, employment and competition targets will be contributed.

Within the scope of project 6 partner (university, institue, company, local authority, sivil society organization) from 4 countries will take joint action to develop new outputs (training programme, interactive tool and sustainable ideas) which can be used in formal and nonformal educational institutions. The module will prepared by using non-formal education method focusing on young engineering students and youth engineers. It also will be a digital online platform involving e-courses, training modules, ICT based tools etc. The project will have been taking place for two years and it will comprise transnational meetings, dissemination activitiy, training courses, intellectual outputs etc.
